Lori & Chris - Wedding

With each wedding ceremony being for the same reason and for how long we’ve been involved in weddings, it still always amazes me how different each wedding is and how those differences are relative to the people getting married.  This weekend was a perfect example of how delightful it is to be around wonderful people having a genuinely wonderful time.  Having done an engagement session with Chris and Lori followed by a bridal session for Lori by herself, we already knew that we were going to be in the midst of some wonderful people, and that was certainly confirmed on Saturday!  Lori’s grandmother lives directly across from the wedding location, so Lori had the unique sentimental experience, luxury, and convenience of getting ready at her grandmother’s home and when it comes to weddings, the more family ties to the day, the better the memories.  Photographing there was a great experience because the home was full of memories and details relating to those memories.  Meeting family and friends as the day went by, we had an incredible time working with everyone at Grandma’s house followed by some images being made in the church.  With Chris and Lori both being on the same level as Rebekah and I for having fun and a lot of laughing moments, the formal session rolled right along and went by quickly.  After greeting and catching up with all their friends and famliy at the reception, Chris and Lori were nearly the last people to leave which I thought was great because after all the planning a wedding requires, I’m all for making the most of it.  Instead of any big send-offs with bubbles, seed, etc., Lori told me that she simply wanted to walk back across the street so she and Chris could have some reception food while sitting at her Grandma’s kitchen table…. a place that marks so many memories for her.  As a photographer, I view images not only for what they are today but also for what they’ll represent in the future as people view them.  I think the images of Lori & Chris finishing their wedding day in Grandma’s kitchen will probably be some of the most memory-invoking images from the end of a wedding day that we’ve produced.  Not only will they remember their wedding day, but seeing details in Grandma’s kitchen will continue to spawn conversation about memories relating to those items, so the image becomes much much more than the ending of their wedding day.  A photographer can hardly ask for more than that.
