Wedding Tips - Socks & Fire

Friday, October 27th, 2006

We were having a conversation the other day about the most popular “forgotten items” on wedding day.  Now, I’m sure we’ll be coming up with more and adding them to the list, but two of the most popular things we’ve seen over the years are:

 1. Black socks for one of the men - groom or otherwise.  I think the reason is that if guys don’t get ready prior to arrival, they think their tux bag has EVERYTHING in it, and it does… except the socks.  Some tux services are now offering socks, but it sure seems to be a popular item gone missing on wedding day.

 2. Another is fire in the form of matches or lighter.  When it comes to candle-lighting time, there can be 1000 people around and it never fails that nobody has a lighter or matches to light that fancy candle-lighting wand that the groomsmen use to light the alter candles and/or the mothers lighting the unity candle.

So… if you’re going to pack a few extra things for wedding day, toss those in there.  If they’re not needed, no loss, but if they are, oh, the stress you’ll save.  I’m sure there will be more to follow.

Wedding Tip - Lipstick

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

I’ve seen this on several occasions and it’s probably one of the most stressful accidents due to the timing.  It’s quite common for a bride to make that one last visit to the ladies’ room very close to the ceremony time.  Well… as we know, with what is usually a large dress, it’s usually a team effort with the bridesmaids… and that means several people are holding - and moving - the bridal gown.  On several occaions at weddings we’ve worked, the bridesmaids are being so helpful to the bride, they forgot about where their other hand is…. the one holding the gown.  One slight movement in the wrong direction, and the gown taps the brides lips and the result is a nice lipstick print on the very front of the gown.  I’ve seen this several times and of course it’s only minutes away from aisle time which creates an unbelievable panic.  So, the tip is to make sure that all those helping you with your gown and veil are aware of where they’re moving that gown.
